Holiday Music

Why is it that the happiest time of the year can also bring about some of the best sad music? Two of my favorite songs, River and Wintersong, just make me want to cry, and yet I love them. Maybe its something about the peace that I find in each song. They're almost like winter lullabies.

The semester is almost finished and I'm just about ready to go home and relax for a while. Family time is much needed. I'm just about burned out.

Tonight I'm heading over to a good friend's house for enchiladas and her daughter's Christmas chorus production. I'm looking forward to the Christmas spirit in those kid's voices.

Have a wonderful evening and try and find the peace that is hidden in this busy holiday season.

Oh my.

It has been nearly 3 months since I last posted. I guess school has gotten busy. Thank goodness I only have one more semester to go. I was finishing up a project for my studio class and realized that its stupid that I put all my watercolor renderings in a folder to sit and gather dust. I have very little original artwork right now, so I might as well use these for now... they're free after all. Here's a look at what watercolors I've been doing this semester. Enjoy.

Driving tunes

The first time I heard Regina Spektor's song "Fidelity" was one Friday afternoon late last fall on my way to Charlottesville. The radio had just released her song and I was in love. The song could not have been more perfect for the drive, not so much a focus on the lyrics, but on the way her voice ups and downs like the hills. Kind of like the anticipation of seeing Michael, her voice made me a happy driver. Just like every visit, I couldn't wait to see him... and listen to the song just one more time. Every time my ipod shuffles to this song, I smile.

Back to School

School is off to a great start. Its so nice to see friends again, catch up with professors, etc. Among the other interior design classes I'm taking this semester, I have registered for two courses focusing on the affordable sustainable lifestyle. On that note... be prepared; I'll probably be posting about saavy sustainable products/info I learn about. Its going to be a busy semester!

Inspiring...

Work Space

I'm going to be honest... I'm addicted to workspaces. Yes, I'm talking about desks, countertops, walls, really any space that can be defined as a work environment. I can think of so many rational reasons to start a new work space... the primary reason being the start of a new semester. With that rapidly approaching, I need something that will be inviting, and make me want to do school work again. How about a new desk... and storage options, and easy access to all of my school necessities. I'm nearly out of breath. Two work spaces are ideal. One paralleling the next, so that I can spin around and change the homework subject quickly.

This summer I have seen so many interesting and unique work areas. I picked up a copy of PotteryBarn "Workspaces" earlier this summer. The images grace my eyes and inspire me to use the strangest and most unique objects in my new workspace. The simplicity of soothing colors mixed with the crispest whites attracts me to each and every space. Organization a-plenty... I adore it!

My last online visit to Ikea has inspired me to purchase two wood countertops, one fifteen inches deep and one twenty five inches deep, both to be used as primary workspaces. The fifteen inch deep countertop will be mounted to the wall and will sit atop two white bath cabinets purchased from Target, while the twenty five inch deep countertop will be mounted on adjustable legs and will sit parallel to the wall. Its funny how you get this amazing idea in your mind... I can't stop thinking about this until I go purchase everything I need. On that note, I'm off to shop online. I'll keep you updated.
